WCBP Junior Lifeguard and Futures Program
The WCBP Junior Lifeguard Program is designed to instruct aspiring lifeguards (ages 8 to 15) in the basics of ocean rescue techniques. These student athletes in the program are provided instruction in water safety education, rescue techniques, identifying rip currents, and in the use of professional lifeguard equipment as well as learn about the lifeguard’s workday by assisting real lifeguards, as they perform their regular duties.
Our objectives are to show the participants the values of mental and physical discipline; and, to teach them to respect themselves, others, authority, and the natural environment. The program will provide a fun, safe place for youths to grow and learn about themselves and the diverse environments of the New Jersey beaches. Our hope is that many of the participants will become WCBP lifeguards of the future.
In addition to the physical aspect of the program, participants will take part in classroom instruction in studying topics as diverse as beach lifeguard principles and policy, first aid, CPR, marine biology and ecology. (***Futures Program only***)
