New Candidates
Please be advised that modifications have been made to the 2021 WCBP Application/Tryout Procedure. The schedule/information below is contingent on any Covid-19 restrictions and are subject to change if necessary.
1.The Rookie test/tryout will be scheduled on the following dates:
May 15th, 22nd, June 5th, 12th ****by appointment only****
All 2021 applicants must submit an online application, once received your application will be placed on file, a notice will be sent in late April/early May to the applicant's attention via the email address indicated on application.
Time and date will be indicated in the email, applicant must confirm availability for the tryout/testing process
2. Testing will consist of the following:
a. Swim test (approximately 250 yd swim : Crest Memorial Pool, Pittsburgh & New Jersey Ave, Wildwood Crest NJ
b. Beach Run (approximately 1 1/2 mile run)…
c. Ocean surf dash (conditions permitting)
d. Interview
***All candidates who have applied Online will need to confirm their availability in order to be scheduled for a tryout testing date & time...please check your email for this notice!!***
The Wildwood Crest Beach Patrol employs roughly 80 lifeguards/staff each summer. This requires an average of 18 new lifeguards per summer. New candidates must pass a prerequisite qualification standard of 250 yard swim in 4 minutes, followed by a 1.5 mile run in 10 minutes. If each standard is met, you may be asked to follow up with an interview with staff members. Test date for the 2021 season will be on May 15, 22 June5, 12, 2021 at the Von Savage pool in Wildwood Crest starting at 8:00 a.m. Please refer to Calendar of Events for other test dates.
Depending on staffing needs, candidates that meet requirements may be invited to a 10-day training camp. The camp will consist of training in first-aid, CPR, AED, and skills such as swimming, paddling, and rowing.

Returning Members
Dear WCBP Lifeguard,
This is your 2021 lifeguard application. Please complete the ONLINE Rehire Application by no later than April 15, 2021
It is extremely important to get a handle as to who is planning on returning and what scheduling issues there may be. If you are not returning, please indicate that as well. All WCBP members that do not reply by April 15th, 2021 will be considered as not returning and their positions may be relinquished to new candidates. Please note that if you plan to return, you must be available to start by no later than July 1, 2021 and work until at least August 15, 2021. No interrupted service : i.e (no family vacations, school camps, summer school, etc.) any exception to this policy must be submitted and cleared by Chief Johnson prior to start date.
There will be a Pre- Employment Re-qualification Swim and Stamina test at the Crest Memorial Pool.The 1st testing dates May 1, 8, 15, 22, 29 (subject to change :i.e. Covid restrictions if applicable) . The Run portion will immediately follow the each of the pool swim re-qualification portions. Returning WCBP members who need AED/CPR Re-certification will be scheduled for re-certification immediately after all testing is completed on their scheduled date. Please indicate on your re application as to your preference for scheduling a testing date. (access rehire application online at www.wcbp.org)
Tentative re-qualification testing scheduling is set for the following:
May 1, 8, 15, 22, 29 (subject to change :i.e. Covid restrictions if applicable)
There are NO EXCEPTIONS – you must complete both stamina sections before you are assigned a starting date. All returning personnel must bring a current copy of the following documents to REQUAL in order to be processed at city hall for return to work date. Please note that your start date is dependent upon your submission of all required documents
(1) Recent Physical Form
(2) Driver's License
(3) SS Card
All returning personnel will be required to submit an online background check after passing the Requal Swim/Run/CPR-First Aid Tests. Background check must be processed before starting work.
As always, we will work weekends starting Memorial Weekend (May 29-31). Official Full time status will start on Monday June 14th and work through the weekend after Labor Day (Sept 11-12).
As you know your work as a lifeguard is important, and the people that visit the beaches of Wildwood Crest rely on you for your professionalism and skills. Please be ready to work and be in shape for your job.

- The stamina test will be: 1/2 mile run in 3:45 min or less
- 500 YD Ocean swim in 10 minutes or less per SJLCA requirements to be completed by no later than August 1st
- You will need to be at the pool at least 15 minutes before the test. Please bring a towel, goggles etc., as they will not be provided for you. Please bring appropriate footwear for the run test. Please bring CPR mask for CPR/AED recertification if scheduled.
