Established in 1984, the Cape May County Lifeguard Championship is known around South Jersey as the unofficial start of summer. Ten competing beach patrols from Cape May County come together to kick off the competition season.
The races consist of six events. The competitors will be tested on a variety of movements performed at high intensity. Each event is based on functional lifeguarding skills, and these skills reflect the best aspects of what lifeguards are expected to perform on a daily basis.
