"Granny" Mae Watton and "Aunt" Sally Bonelli
Granny Mae & Sally Bonelli for many years were two very familiar faces on the beaches of Wildwood Crest, in addition they were "family" to the Wildwood Crest Beach Patrol. Both were avid beach goers and loved the WCBP. Granny Mae's son Roy Watton was the first of the family to become a member of the WCBP back in the 1940's and in later years came back to work as a Medic for the WCBP. The family tradition continued with Sally's son Larry (lifeguard/Lieutenant) and daughter Sally Ann (Medic) becoming members of the patrol as well. Granny's grandsons Jeff & Lance Walden as well as great grandson Philip Bonelli also joined the patrol.
Granny Mae & Aunt Sally, as they were affectionately known to the WCBP, were inspirational to the beach patrol as they truly displayed their love and passion for the beach. In their honor, the WCBP has an annual award, "The Granny Mae & Aunt Sally", to recognize a current WCBP member who displays the same love, dedication and commitment.
